About the Role
Role Purpose:
To provide communication support to Deaf learners, enabling them to access learning, training, workshops and community activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide communication support using British Sign Language (BSL).
• Facilitate effective communication between Deaf learners, tutors and peers.
• Support learners to access course materials and learning activities.
• Clarify information where required to support understanding.
• Assist with note-taking and reinforcement of key learning points where appropriate.
• Promote learner independence and confidence.
• Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
• Work collaboratively with tutors, trainers and other support staff.
• Support learners during assessments, where permitted by awarding body regulations.
• Attend planning meetings and briefings as required.
• Maintain accurate records where necessary.
Requirements
Essential Criteria
• Minimum BSL Level 3 qualification (or working towards).
• Understanding of Deaf culture and the Deaf community.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, organised and professional approach.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Criteria
• Qualified CSW or relevant support experience.
• BSL Level 6 or above.
• Experience supporting learners in education, training or community settings.
• Knowledge of Signature qualifications and assessment processes.
• Experience supporting learners with additional needs.
