About the Role

We are seeking experienced Deaf BSL users to deliver British Sign Language Level 1 and Level 2 classes in London on a freelance basis.

We are looking for two tutors:

• One tutor for BSL Level 1
• One tutor for BSL Level 2

The successful tutors will be native BSL users, ideally from the Deaf community, with experience teaching or facilitating BSL learning in an engaging and inclusive way.

Tutors will be responsible for planning and delivering weekly lessons and supporting learners to build confidence in communicating using British Sign Language.



Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging weekly BSL Level 1 or Level 2 classes
• Prepare and develop weekly lesson materials and activities
• Support learners in developing receptive and expressive BSL skills
• Encourage a voice-off, immersive learning environment
• Adapt teaching approaches for mixed learning styles
• Support learners preparing for BSL assessments where applicable
• Maintain a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
• Communicate with course organisers regarding attendance and progress

Requirements

Essential Requirements


• Deaf native BSL user

• Strong fluency in British Sign Language

• Experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating BSL learning

• Confidence delivering lessons to groups

• Ability to prepare structured lesson plans and materials

• Reliable and professional approach to teaching

• Passion for promoting BSL and Deaf culture


Desirable (but not essential)


• Previous experience teaching Signature BSL courses

• Teaching qualification or BSL teaching certification

• Experience working with adult learners

• Experience delivering BSL courses within community settings
